I love looking at hounds and despite being “a novice” against the “old hands” when it comes to breeding it is interesting to look closely at certain lines. The Suffolk Foxhounds are beautifully bred. Over many years by a consistent Huntsman and you would have to look to him for further information. But if you look closely you will spot the black and white hounds with a blue mottle which goes back to Carmarthenshire Nimrod (1924). Sean has introduced an American line which you can spot that are tan and white with a longer ear than the traditional Modern English Foxhound. When Sean came from the United to the Suffolk Foxhounds he brought a hound which went back to United Raider and has kept that line in kennel – he also has a line which he is particularly fond: the ST line from Captain Fanshawe – One of the reasons Fanshawe is famous; is for bringing the highly successful ST Carlow bloodline from a disbanded Irish pack to the Cottesmore, launching one of the great hunting bloodlines in the United Kingdom.
