Always an honour to be invited to the Thurlow Puppy Show and true to Frank Houghton Brown’s account of Puppy Show protocol for a recent publication of Horse and Hound. When tea was over, there was an opportunity to look at the old hounds in the puppy show ring and give visiting huntsmen a chance to inspect possible stallion hounds or brood bitches. It was particularly nice to hear anecdotes about the individual hounds or families. And although dress codes have relaxed in most places (I can’t wear a hat taking photographs). We must not loose standards. Mr and Mrs Peel will ensure that – always the best turned out on and off the hunting field. Notice the grey bowler hats.
