The National Stud is a Thoroughbred horse breeding working farm.  Set in 500 acres and run by The Jockey Club.  At present only three stallions stand and some ninety two foals have been born this year.  David Elsworth (famously trained Desert Orchid) is the only resident trainer of flat and jump racehorses residing/training on the National Stud.  Three thousand horses are trained in Newmarket and a fee of £174.00 a month is paid to the jockey club for each individual race horse for the use of the gallops.  Last time I visited this stud Silver Patriarch was standing and before that I had the privilege to see Mill Reef. (Er. let’s just say – I have been around a long time)  Thought you might like to take a little journey
